I'd "Border" not..

My life seems to be spinning around me. This has been a busy few weeks. The birth of my new grandson has us all walking on clouds. I have been on vacations the last few days and my SO flew down here to spend a few days with me. We took off Sunday and drove to Eagle Pass to try our luck at the only casino in Texas. It was a 3 hour drive and we made it there without any problems. Note here: This is next to the Mexican Border. I mean right next to it. You cross a bridge from Eagle Pass and you are in Mexico. I have to tell you, I really, really wanted to go across and do some shopping.

We checked into the hotel and rested for a bit , then headed off to the Casino to try our luck...

We had money to burn.. which is about how long it took us to loose it. I know why I don't do this often, I have a hard time letting go of money I have saved. It is fun at first, then you think of how hard you worked to earn that money and wonder if you have suddenly lost your mind. At this point ( about 1 and 1/2 hours into it ) , you know you are ready to hang onto what you have left. We walked out with money in our pockets, ( not that we won any ) which is more then most people do.

We headed back into town and decided to stop for dinner. While having dinner I was working on getting my SO to agree to go across the bridge and do a little shopping. Surely it was safe there with the Mexican police and the Border Patrol on hand.

I'm sure that a trip across the border is something I can still afford. I am back to the burning thing here, this money is burning a hole in my pocket. I actually have money left, and just think I can save some cash shopping for things that I don't really need in Mexico.  After all  they will be cheap. !!  Right ? I will admit sometimes my thinking is a little off centered. My SO was not really into the idea. He is from up north and had heard all the talk in the news about the drug wars. I decide to play fair and not bully him into something he really didn't want to do. I asked our waiter if it was safe to go across.. His Answer " I live here, and I don't go across ". This ended my dreams of shopping in a hurry.  ( and saved me more money ). In listening to the news upon our return, I heard where 250 people had been killed in the last mo. at one of the border towns. Which goes to show that listening to good advice, ( even when it's not what you want to hear ) can be a smart thing. I guess me and Wal_ Mart will remain good friends after all.

We saw a great movie  a couple of nights ago. I hadn't heard all that much about it until it walked away with the awards on TV last week.  We decided what the heck, let's see if it meets our expatiations. Slumdog Millionaire. Worth my time and the cost of a ticket ? YES ! In this movie you were shown life in a country where kids are left to raise themselves, and how they survive. This is not a true story, but seeing the film makes you aware of how little some people have. We both enjoyed it and are thankful we live in a country where hope for something better is not  just a dream, but a reality that we can all work towards.

I was in San Antonio today dropping my SO off at the airport for his return to VA and work. He will be missed, but I know there is another adventure waiting  in the weeks to come.

So tonight I am kicking back and  reviewing the last few weeks. At this point not much is gonna slow down. My granddaughter has her 4th birthday next  week and my dd is having a breast reduction the following day. I'm sure that the up coming week will be just as busy, as I  also  will return to work. All in all life is moving fast and I am just trying to keep up. Signed:  A very  busy Simply_me
